You are right. I never noticed that before. Some are small. And some are big. Good lord you've got it!! They ARE different sizes!! I think you may be in the running for a Nobel prize.

It was those big giants in the olden days that chewed bits of rocks of mountains and chucked them down hills to see who throw them the furthest, they didn't need to breath underwater in those days they were giants.

As for when what is now land was under water, the people simply lived above the water line on higher ground and as the water receded, they moved down into the lower plains and valleys.
