Should the overweight be forced to exercise?!

Question: in general fat people are fat because they eat to much of the wrong stuff and dont exercise enough should they be forced to take care of themselves or do you think its a free country and people can live the way they want.

It's not a free country though is it? Because it's our NHS that suffers when these overweight people have strokes, heart attacks or whatever else is caused by excessive eating and lack of exercise. So, yes, they should be forced to exercise and/or eat less. If people say they are happy being fat, then they should sign a declaration saying they will never go to an NHS hospital for help if they get a fat related disorder.

why are u even asking this if you're "london's" finest?

As long as the underweight be forced to eat!

They, like everyone else, should be made aware of how to exercise properly, and told the benefits, but there are sometimes other health issues to be considered; not all over weight people eat the wrong foods/amounts.

Only if the underweight are forced to eat.

Jennifer Love Hewitt looks a lot better than Nicole Richie, don't you think??

if you where fat would you like want to exercise if you did not want to

yes unless the person has some kind of sickness.

NO , but stupidity should be very , very painful !

It seems they are going to be given money for slimming help. A bit daft, who is going to oversee that??

they make their own choices mostly, those with ill ness can not help the weight gain ,those who just eat will have their own burden to carry.

Are you kidding? Last time I checked this is not a communist country (yet). This is a free country and people should be allowed to live their lives as they see fit...within the law of course.

i agree with the free counrty theory but i also feel that people who choose to destroy their bodies shouldnt get the use of the nhs willy nilly. the same as smokers, drug users etc. people who take care of themselves should get priority to the benefit of the nhs. so if fat people want the help then there should be a contact to say if they dont adhere then they paye money back.

I dont think its right for people to make anyone do anything.

You could obesity as a similar problem to alcoholism or drug addictions.

However, like them it comes down to their choice and so even though we and they probably know it is bad for them, they will still do and no amount of making someone exercise is gonna work in the long run.

And this idea about paying people to lose weight is rediculous. We should get paid for being a healthy weight if the government want to go down this route!!

Everybody has all the facts and so its up to them if thry want to kill themselves by over eating and lack of exercise.

You all ask these questions about fat people and never think that one day it could be you who puts on the pounds...i am not fat but i don't moan about the people that are...leave them alone and worry about other more important issues in this country

This is a free country, you can do what you want however if people were forced to excerise the death and obesity rate would decrease which would be a great thing.

agree with william

What a generalisation. I'm overweight because of PCOS (PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome). I love fruit and vegetables, especially lettuce .... if I do a colleague a favour, my standard fee is a head of lettuce. I hate fried food and generally do not eat junk food.

I buy takeaways maybe once a year and never to into fast food joints.

As for exercise, I'm a carer, I walk for a living. I may walk five miles in the course of a shift and that's beside all the bending and lifting.

I work with a couple of girls who can't put weight on no matter how hard they try and we often compare our similar problems (just at opposite ends of the scales). Such conversations normally end with me declaring that they get all the sympathy and I get all the scorn.

Incidently, I did lose seven stones last year but am stuck at 18 and a half at the minute.

As for not having access to NHS treatment because it's my own fault.... what about the health freaks who run so much that they rupture arteries or sky divers who land badly.

Slim people don't have the monopoly on good health, a year ago I was 25 stones and had been for more years than I care to remember, I only started to be able to lose weight when the doc changed my meds for PCOS and they 'did' something. However, even at 25 stones, I worked a 50 hour week and in seven years of working at the home, I've only had about eight days off sick. None of those had anything to do with my weight, a few were flu, I was hospitalised for a few days too when a lady badly scratched my face and an infection set in.

Fat-bashing REALLY gets my goat.

No, the overweights shouldn't be forced to exercise, much the same way the underweights shouldn't be forced to gain weight.

Fat people are fat because their bodies retain fat and don't lose fat so easily, it's more of their bodies than what they eat. They can excercise as hard as they can and eat as little they can, but in the end it's up to their bodies.

As forced to take care of themselves.

People are not forced to take care of themselves, since each day people have to take care of themselves in order to survive.

What is it with all these idiotic suggestions about forcing overweight people to exercise and too loose weight. There is such a thing as freedom my nan is a larger woman but thats up to her.
