He died in the wilderness. A recent find of money and bill fragments leads searchers to believe he never made it out. There was a TV feature on not long ago of searchers looking for the cash, and a small find in some creek beds.
He was either severly injured or died. Anyway I think he became bear poop shortly after he landed.
his parachute didn't deploy in time.....the money and his body probably landed somewhere far from where they assumed they both landed....and i think the money has probably disintegrated by now
