Where would you rather not live, Wales or the Black Country?!
Question: I am not quite certain where you would rather live, however, I am quite fond of the Southern part of the United States as it is very hospitable and you can buy a 1500 sq foot 3 bedroom 2.5 bath with a double car garage for $102,000, that about 50,000 pounds right? Your money would go much further. Sorry I did not directly answer your questions, just thought that I would throw in another option.
You know the saying, if you don't like the direction that your life in heading in, then change it before it is too late. It's such a big world with so many wonderful people to spend time with and enjoy and so much to see, if you are uncomfortable with where you are, then by all means MOVE! One suggestions, MOVE to a place where the people are friendly, and the weather is good most of the time, and you feel comfortable when you get there.
