Answers: My 8 year old daughter is asking while reading a story of the character Amber Brown.

Envy is when you desire the same thing as someone else has..but don't want to take it away from them.

Jealousy is when you want something that someone has and don't care if they lose it.

Envy is when someone wants to change rolls with and be the other person.(be in the other person's life -shoes)
Jealousy is an emotional feeling of wanting what someone else has or might have.

That's a good question! Copied and pasted from wikipedia:

The word jealous is often used to describe an envious state. In its correct usage, jealousy is the fear of losing something to another person (a loved one in the prototypical form), while envy is the pain or frustration caused by another person having something that one does not have oneself.

Envy is a feeling of discontent or covetousness with regard to another's advantages, success, possessions, etc.

Jealousy is resentment against a rival, a person enjoying success or advantage, etc., or against another's success or advantage itself.

Envy is more a material issue, while jealousy is mental/emotional (like, a lot of times it's when someone is jealous of the attention someone else is getting).

I hope you can translate that for your daughter!!

I agree with Miss Ellie, I think she has it nailed~~

I think they are much the same. The only difference is the part of speech. Jealousy is a noun and envy could be a noun or verb.

thanks, now I know.
