My mom had this wicked long wooden spoon of death.
my dad just punched me in the head. (joke)
He just took everything away (food, phone, tv, Oxygen...then normal stuff)
I was grounded a lot.
My mom would spank us once in a while but mainly w/ me...it killed me that she made me feel guilty for doing whatever i had done. We have always been very close, so she would give me the silent treatment and that was punishment enough for me.
My dad, he's a very patient person, but if we ever misbehaved he would spank us.
I have awesome parents though so i didnt get hit very much.
i do not recalled being disciplined!..i basically did exactly what i wanted

If I spoke disrespectfully to her or another adult, or if I said a cuss word, I got my mouth slapped. The one time I stole something, I came home from school to find some of my toys had been "stolen" Trust me I learned REALLY fast. Beyond that, it was really a matter of taking away privileges like phone TV and sleepovers.
They went by the spare the rod spoil the child rule. Although I did stay grounded throughout my whole teenage years it seems.
Deprivation of something I liked, i.e., Listening to records, watching TV, going out.. that type of thing. Was it effective? When I was younger, yes- teenage years you find your way around most "punishments". My Mom used to threaten us with the wooden spoon but I don't recall having actually ever having physical contact with it!
Beat us with a belt, hanger, shoe.. whatever... called us filthy names.. Dad was not around, alcoholic... mom had 8 kids... most of my childhood I can't remember, have blocked it out... Thankfully... there are years I actually do not remember...
Also, had our mouths washed out with soap...
I have two kids, one young, one teenager.. I have never laid a hand on either one and am the opposite of a disciplinarian... I don't know how to discipline them because I'm afraid of hurting their feelings...
That being said, they are great, wonderful kids, oldest is a high school scholar and an honor student and the little guy just got the Character Plus Student award at his school and Star Student for the semester (first grade) and both are happy so I suppose I'm doing something right, lol...
My mother was the only one who ever laid out the punishment and it was with one of those really thin bedroom slippers.... She would grab my hand and start whacking away as I went around and around in circles.. Them things really hurt too!!!!
