I have two sides to different areas of my personality, and relate with you on what you stated, people who are into astrology also think that I am a Gemini.
I too am loving, affectionate and kind to people, but when becoming too attached or emotional, I step back and rationalise myself into not getting carried away by emotions, then seem like an a-hole to some.
People who have been in my life long enough understand that this is just a way for me to protect myself, not that I intentionally try to hurt anyone.
