Wow. That's pretty harsh. I think I've accidentally done it once or twice, but never intentionally. Heck, I barely ever thumbs down strangers, for that matter.
i know. that shattered my world when i saw it and it wasnt even a thumbs down for me. he must be gay.

To the tell you the truth I dont care one way or another. If someone thumbs down me oh well. I liked my answer, if anybody else doesnt thats on them.
Plus theres the fact that I dont even pay attention to my contacts nor if I have any thumbs down. Once I answer a question I move on to the next, I dont stalk the question to see how many thumbs up/downs I have.
No one likes me dear so i get several every day on nearly every answer.

It's their right and I respect that decision as I am not gonna insult their intelligent by asking them or make them feel obligated to give me a thumbs up. Freedom of speech make one relationship become stronger because the best friend ever is the best critics.....I do so know!
And btw I never give thumbs down unless MORONS....

It just means that he/she doesn't always agree with your opinion and feels comfortable enough to admit it.
You need to understand that the people in our lives may like us or even love us, but that doesn't mean they will always agree with us.
That is a bit harsh of a contact to do that. I have done it once by accident.
You probably don't even know him in real life if he is just a contact, so whats the big deal? This is Yahoo answers, not your job application. It's a fun forum, not some place that should start drama. Might as well start calling this Myspace....

Do you take a thumbs down personally? Or do you accept it for a critique of the answer you gave? In my opinion, a thumbs down is a statement about a particular answer, NOT about the answerer (unless, of course, the "thumbs down fairy" goes around giving ALL your answers a thumbs down rating). If a beloved contact gives me a thumbs down and admits it, I would be curious as to his or her reasoning, but I would not automatically take it as a personal attack. If all my contacts agreed with everything I said, life would be pretty boring.
