Which do you prefer: Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen?!
Question: How funny that you asked this Q Bobby Blues! I just did a lot of research on this after a long talk with my doctor. They both have dangerous aspects so I wondered which was the lesser of the two evils.
Turns out neither. Ibuprofen is dangerous to the kidneys (never ever drink while taking it - ever!) and acetaminophen is hard on the liver. In the end my doctor and my research showed it best to "switch them up". Experience tells me that Ibuprofen works best for a majority of ailments ~ especially swelling or muscle pain. However ... it's not good to take it for extended periods of time.
My doctor said to start with Ibuprofen ... then when it's time to take the next dose switch to Acetaminophen. This way not too much of either one is in your system for long periods of time and it gives both the kidneys and liver a break. I have been doing this and as long as I start with the Ibuprofen it works great! I rarely take them anyway ... but I am glad I found all this out. She also said to drink TONS of water when taking either!
I also found out that Ibuprofen is directly related to aspirin and should never be given to a child under 13. It can also cause Rye's disease. That freaked me out because I had given it to my son many times. Now I have completely switched him to Tylenol!
So which do I prefer? Before my answer would have been Ibuprofen for sure! Now I guess I'd have to say I prefer a "combination" of the two!
Shall we call it an "I/A" Cocktail?? lol
Peace to you ...
