The original black and white version of War of the Worlds for me. That was a classic.

ALIEN!
"Alien" was a head of it's time however "Aliens" the extended version was a far superior movie. The two additional "Alien" movies were a waste of time.
"Independence Day" was a thrill ride with a happy ending. Really enjoyable but the sequel they talked about has yet to be made. Too bad!
"War of the Worlds" the 1953 version has a much better story line even if it's not close to the book version. The Spielberg version is loaded with special effects and although runs closer to the book version was pretty disappointing.
Both "Men In Black" movies are just for fun only! If you're a serious Sci-Fi person they would be the least interesting.
For me I'd put "Alien" first, "Independence Day" next followed by "War of the Worlds" and "Men in Black".
