Who would like to choose where their tax money goes?!

Question: Does anyone else this it would be nice to be able to choose specifically where their tax money goes. Say, you could pick to support education, the military, civil construction, but not welfare and social security. I think it would be nice, do you agree?

Interesting concept. Too bad many people don't think beyond their own nose and see the all benefits (or lack there of) that directly affect them from. How many people with no children , or people who's children are grown, would elect not to support education, although education certainly benefits everyone. So would that burden fall to people who really NEED public education. I fear those who could afford it would perhaps choose to put their tax dollars into private schools rather than chosing to support public schools. And who has the time to study every single aspect of tax revenue spending?
Think!!!

How about a sales tax as opposed to income tax?

Yeah that would be awesome...and it would make me feel like my tax dollars are actually going towards something productive.

me

thats a good idea let it go somewhere useful for a change

I would eliminate the IRS and the corrupt system the government created.

Would be nice.

bb70

that would be great but then the govenment would go under

Hell yeah, i would love that luxury, unfortunately that will never happen unless we could get together and some how impose our own dictatorship on the country.

me, da goverment is wasting too much money on dis war, and illeagles

Dont givit to them keep it for yourself!!!

I think it would be nice if I was told (honestly) where it was going.

No, the tracking and personnel that would be required to enforce this would cost too much. Also taxes are for the common good. You should vote if you don't like how your taxes are being spent.

Yes, that would be great!

I don't think it would be a good idea, since some places would probably get more support than others. A lot of people would choose stuff like education and welfare to make themselves feel good about what they're contributing to, and areas like civil construction and military spending would get neglected.

I always thought that would be a good idea. Just add a check list of the US budget line items and see how close the people come to how the gov't spends. That would be interesting. Maybe some entrepreneur could set up a website like this and charge a dollar for every person that wanted to get in their 2 cents and see the results.

That would be so great!

Ummm... that's why we have ... ummm... elected officials. Vote for the ones that most closely support what you do.

Individual earmarks would not only be impossible, but impractical, and quite frankly, irrational.

On another note, it would give the rich a very very disproportionate amount of control vs. the poor.

Yes, I agree, wonder why we can't choose just like we get to choose a president. They get to decide where "our" money goes, thats not right but what in the world can we do about it ?
