i use my check card (debit) as a credit card so i don't need to use my pin#. the bank refunds a teeny tiny % for doing so..

I have both, but I'm 26. There was no such thing as a debit card when I was 16.
If you don't have money in the card, and you will just have to deduct it from the assigned credit limit given by the card company then that is credit card. But if it is an automatic teller machine or if it is a deposit card, then it is a debit card, because everytime you will use it, the amount you will spend will be debited from your account.
