My boss just called me to come to work on my day off!!!!?!

Question: I work overtime, work 2 different areas on the same shift, help others catch up their work, put up with last-minute schedule changes, work every shift but graveyard, every week. Should I feel guilty for saying I wouldn't come in today?

I'm kinda disgusted anyway, because I have worked there 3 years and have never had a steady shift the whole time. They hired a new person a month ago, and she already has a steady shift. So why should I put myself out all the time? I got a great review last week due to my hard work, but do they have the right to just assume that my life consist of nothing but work?

Heck no, don't go in today.

Go to the park and play on the swings and slide.

Then go have an ice cream cone (yessss, I know it's winter) or eat cake and have hot chocolate.

Then turn your phone ringer off. Pour yourself a stiff one and put in your favorite movie. Don't forget the popcorn!

Order in pizza or whatever your favorite "order in" food is. Don't forget dessert.

Have yourself a nice bubble bath by candle light then put your most comfy jammies on.

It's time for bed... gee, where did the time go? And I didn't think about work once!

(You can choose mine for best answer because I chose yours, LOL)

No, don't feel bad. They can call the new girl in if they need someone that bad.

Remember....you were looking for a job when you went there, look for another job if you don't like where you are now

My boss tried to get me to come back early from leave for surgery . My co worker apparently needs some time off. NO!

You should not feel guilty, you have worked your butt off so why should you go in on your day off, this is your time, you deserve the break, Enjoy and relax !!! ;0)

Yes, definitely it sounds as if they are taking advantage of you. Enjoy the day off..guilt free.. you give more than 100% when you are there.

that really sucks when people take advantage of you like that...and no, they don't have the right to assume that your life consists of nothing but work =)

I think you're venting! Good for you! Seems like you're overworked and almost under appreciated. Hell nawl you shouldn't feel guilty for not coming in! Sit at home and watch tv and eat snacks all day..treat urself!

no

Bummer, sorry.

Of course you have the right to say No, and you shouldn't feel guilty about it at all.
I go through the same thing, help out above and beyond at work, work crazy schedules, help out the newbies with ****, but if it's my day off. It's my day off. I have plans I made and won't break them. They should understand that it's your day off, and shouldn't have even called you in the first place.
Just enjoy your day off, and don't feel guilty about it at all.

Yes you do I mean come on someone shouldnt have to work on thier day off. But honey thats life.

Heck to da no. Don't let your boss take advantage of you!

You sound like a very hard worker and it sounds like they take advantage of you. I'm on your side. You shouldn't feel bad about not going in on your day off. Invest in Caller ID or an answering machine and then you won't have to even talk to them on your day off. You can always explain you weren't home or already had other plans.

talk to your boss about a steady shift and if he can't give u one then maybe find a better job

I think you have the right to say no. It IS your day off. You've said yes all those other times, so it's your turn to have a day off for yourself. Sounds like you have a really good work ethic, but they are taking advantage of that. Congratulations on a great review and keep up the good work, just not on your day off. : )
Now, go have some fun...

no you shouldn't....but you have shown them that your the type of person who would get things done if asked....so that's really not a bad thing....that they call you.....you said you got a good evaluation....so its not like they haven't noticed...maybe next time you should look at your caller ID and just don't answer the phone.....this way you wont feel bad....

Say no more often. Maybe then they will see how much they need you. Ask for a steady shift this maybe the only way you'll get one.

You sound overworked and unappreciated. I'd get your resume' out there....FAST!

don't worry, be happy''

good for you for standing up for your self. you should not feel guilty at all! enjoy your day off. :)
