In short, when used PROPERLY no, it wont.
The reason this is becoming a common mis-conception is that most people are using said ear buds and turning the volume up too loud, therefore they are.

A test that was conducted about a year ago showed that 70% of people using the ipod ear buds were using volumes of 100 decibel or in excess. At 100db your ears will last 15mins without protection before permanent hearing loss occurred, and this was a common volume for people to listen to hours at a time.

If your concerned with the amount of background noise you recieve with the ear buds, hence why most people turn them up, try a set of headphones. They come in two types, standard which just cover your ears canals and leave parts of the ear exposed, or closed back which encircle the whole ear. The second type kill off more ambient noise.

In both cases headphones will get a huge boost in sound quality, especially in the lower frequency range as the ear buds are exceptionally bad at reproducing these frequencies.

Although one drawback is they do require more power, so you will see your battery draining a bit quicker. Even though this is the case, headphone quality is so much better than ear bud quality and is definitely worth it.

we'll i know its not good for your hearing in thelong run

It could damage your ears by the sound waves blowing a tiny crystal that sits on top of the hair in your ears off. You could wear the headphones that surround your ear instead of going in it and turning down the volume.

No difference - headphone or earbud.

You will damage your hearing in the long run having something blaring in your eardrum for extended periods of time.

I have tinnitis because of it (high frequency deafness - ringing in the ears).

I won't let my son use headphones or ear buds at all.

don't turn the volume up too high -- keep it as low as possible, and be sure to not listen to it constantly and you should be okay.

hmm....
yes!!!
eventually you'll get deaf
other thing you can use is a speaker....^_^
haha :)

I use it too. I think it's fine as long as you don't turn the voice to the max capacity.
