i dont know about banned...but definately trained better... meaning their owners aswell... some ppl just do not realise what a lethal weapon they have when they buy a 'dangerous dog'... Owners should be made to have a 'responsibility test of some sort..
I have seen many owners of pit bulls encouraging their dogs to fight ... and i think some of these ppl actually buy them as a statement ..

I don't think its the dogs fault and the government shouldn't have any control over it. Its the owners fault for the way they were raised and treated not the dogs

rotties are usually very good pets....

It would appear that there are good and bad owners just as there are good and bad parents. The problem happens when the two mix.

all dogs can be dangerous, and the dog with the worst record is the labrador!

It the dog owners fault whenever one of these tragic accidents happen. Rotties arn't a dangerous breed, same without alot of other dogs, any dog can be dangerous if they've been taught to be that way, therefore the owners should be threatened by a jail sentence if the arnt going to be responsible owners. I love rotties.

That the responsibility lies fully with the parents, training the dogs, though it would appear some of these larger dogs like Rotties seem to be rather unpredictable. I have never liked them or dobermans, they seem too aggressive to me to be considered a good companion especially where young children are concerned. I wouldn't ban them, but everyone should have a licence and proof of a training course for these types of dogs.

We tend to forget just how many dangerous humans there are in the world and how they outnumber dangerous dogs many, many times. I am a dog lover ( have a 12 year old German Shepherd ) but take my dog owning responsibilites very, very seriously ... for example, my GSD has a lovely, soft temperament but she is still very much an animal and around kids and strangers, I am always alert. My point therefore is that the owner should hold the ultimate responsibility in law ( which of course they do ) but it must go beyond that to the point of exhaustive education in the dangers of owning an animal that essentially 'bites' for survival. My view is that we should go back to dog licencing, make it subject to a course perhaps, make it expensive and annually renewable, and make it subject to ongoing education. Dogs are sensitive animals and like humans react aggressively in times of fear or uncertaintly. And that is seldom predictable unless they do it often. Hence control is all important. But that can only come from education and proper and controlled licencing. Yes, its just something more to add to the bureaucratic list of things to enforce but just how important is this?

I have seen many times people walking their dogs loose, such as rockweilers or similiar dogs & even though their dog is walking towards me & I have tried to make them see that I'm scared, they make no attempt to restrain their dog or make any apologies for their dog intimidating people..I really think there should be a law against this & a HEAVY fine becos people are rude & inconsioderate. I have thought about telling the council about it but what can they do? I cannot belive the government hasn't done anything about this as this has happened a few times before, inc a teen girl whose face was disfigured.

The problem is not the dog it is the owner. Most just keep them as a fashion accessory and know nothing about their behaviour or tempers, also if they are wrongly or not trained properly then these tragedies occur. The owner of the dog should be in court and banned from owning one for ever and may be imprisoned for the offence.

The dogs aren't to blame, it is what people do to them that makes them behave/react. The owners should be trained not to mistreat their animals or train them to fight.

I think that dogs like pit bulls and rottweilers should be shot on sight and in many cases so should their owners.

Only if you give them guns or let them drive ?!?!?!?!?!
no such thing as a Dangerous dog only dangerous owners

you already know my views on this sweetheart
i know everyones entitled to thier opinion but have you read the idiot 2 up from me its pple like that that should be shot on site because its the nazi way of thinking extermination is not the answer to everything although in his case i'll make an exception

why do animal lovers need to keep a dangerous dog. yes, all dogs, big and small, are liable to bite . The tradition is that all dogs are allowed one bite but in the case of some that bite can be fatal. The latest is a case of two dogs, one of which killed a child the parents insist that the other won't repeat the process, Just how stupid can some so-called animal lovers get.

I know, it's not supposed to be the dog's fault, but you see, a dog is an animal, not a person. So, while crazy animal lovers consider it unfair to take the punishment out on the poor animal when it has behaved poorly, that is the way the legal system works.
When the crazy human shoots up school/office/McDonalds/whatever, we don't punish his/her parents for raising a bad child. Perhaps we should, but the legal system doesn't work that way.
The world is an imperfect place, as are humans (and dogs). Don't tell me that sometimes dogs don't just freak out and bite some kid, because humans certainly do such things, so why would I not assume dogs are just as capable?
Not that makes blaming a whole breed of dog is a good idea, but you do have to ask yourself why humans continue to breed and raise dogs that attack humans. Is it the dog's fault they were born and breed to be bad animals, perhaps not, but the fact that they are means they are not suitible to be part of this society. With humans, we lock them up where they cannot harm others, but with dogs we skip the high costs of this and destroy them. Perhaps we are too kind to humans, but I'd rather err on the side of being too kind...
