How is it possible to have a "civil" war?!

Question: I'm so glad you asked this question because I was thinking this exact same thing the other day when answering a question that involved the 'Civil' War.

There was nothing civil about it.

And yes, before everyone jumps on here and tries to choke me with the logic of civil meaning geographic, there is still nothing about that war that was or any war that is, civil.

Not only that but invariably after said 'civil' wars are fought and lost by both sides, there is irreversible damage done. The entire country suffers. In some cases forever.

It would be possible if both parties are polite and don't fight violently.
Hah! Like that would ever happen.
