Question: I accidentally (and very idiotically) deleted my recycle bin icon from my desktop. i did a search and apparently it can't find it anywhere in the computer. I restarted my computer and it didn't restore it. What the hell do I do now?

Hmmmm stubborn eh?
Well well......scratchin noggin.... hmmm think like the computer.....
This is for XP go to start- all programs- accessories- system tools-scroll to system restore then restore to an earlier date.
Only go back a day or two maybe a week at most before before ya lost the bin I rarely if ever lose files after a restore though.
Here ya go my friend....
I located a free dowload called Tweak UI that will let you find hidden stuff to some extent.
Its an interestin trip trying this method. Its safe just dont delete what looks or appears to be junk unless youre 100% sure OK???
There is another possible way to locate it..icons are also classified as pictures.
Go to Start- Search-Pictures music type in the word Recycle Bin it wont find it at first. (icons, deleted pictures will show up too its freaky)
Select the option to search Hidden Files and folders click search. I'm not a pure 100% computer tech but i believe almost every icon from all software installed is "hidden" in there, even the icons for the internet software smileys ect for the internet software.
Plan on scrolling for about 30-60 minutes turn on the mouse clic lock. Then set back and watch the files go by lol

Oo thats a toughie.. er i guess what they said lol.. system restore

try system restore

theres something called 'system restore' where it says 'create restore point' and you can restore your computer to exactly how it was on a certain date.

but the bad news is
a) you might lose some files and other stuff
b) iv forgotten exactly how to do this. google might be able to help you...

lol sorry i cant be of more help!

To edit the registry to make the Recycle Bin icon reappear on the desktop, follow these steps:

Click on 'MY Documents'
Check left side 'Other Places'
Click on 'Desk Top'
Find icon for 'Recycle Bin'
Click on and drag>>> or click on >>>>>Create Shortcut.

I did the same thing a few months back & still haven't found it.....if you do please let me know :)

Does this help?
