just tell them. they are you parents and they will understand that you are sick in the head...they made you after all =)

why don't you get a portrait done and frame it,you know,one of you and your sheep. and when they want you to explain the picture,you have the whole conversation wide open. and don't forget when they ask,you should have a name for your sheep.
By text messaging them with, " I ? sheep!" They'll probably figure it out from there.
