The Red Ryder BB gun was prominently featured in the popular 1980s film A Christmas Story, where the main character is desperate to get one but is constantly thwarted with the warning "You'll shoot your eye out".
The movie's fictional BB gun, described as the "Red Ryder carbine-action, two hundred shot Range Model air rifle BB gun with a compass in the stock and a thing which tells time," does not correspond to any production model nor even a prototype.

You should not shoot all the people who said you would shoot your eye out, even if you're tempted to do so.

One I know from personal experience. Don't coc it and put the muzzle against your shoe over your toe, then keep your finger on the trigger and stop paying attention to what you are doing.
I was not paying attention and accidentally pulled the trigger. I almost broke my toe! If I did not have shoes on I would have broken it.
I was just a young kid and did not know any better. Now that I am older and own a couple REAL guns, I will not do any thing that dumb any way!
