Why do people make such a big deal out of typos/misspellings?!

Question: For #1, there are plenty of people who are from other countries & don't speak English that well, & #2, some people may either be young or dyslexic. OR, some people may accidentally be typing so fast & then do spell-check, & the spell-check doesn't work, so they don't realize until after they submit the question/answer.

***Shoot! People say I whine over the littlest things, but @ least I overlook those typos.

I overlook it, if someone else made the typo, but if I made the typo myself, I feel embarrassed and I fix it ASAP!

They are people with OCD!!

Nothing better to do.

i just ignore those people....

People are so damn ignorant that's why.

probably because there's a "check spelling" button a person can use before sending out his or her answer.

Hwo cars? Me speling bad dosint mak mee a bad persun, dosit?

me to,i know im still in 8th grade and i still have spelling test, doest mean that i still dont do typos, and i just dont care that much but if i know how to spell the word and if im lazy i would spell it wrong on purpse, but that is not me!

Really and truly the only persons typos i get mad over is my teachers and i just do that to annoy that but your points are so right, maybe you will open some peoples eyes for them!!!

Sorry, but I'm one of those people who think that spelling and grammar are very important. Typos are okay now and then, but the way some people type, it seems obvious that they aren't really taking time to write correctly. Dead giveaways are uncapitalized letters at the beginning of sentences, and too many spelling errors that the spell-check can definitely catch. I think that the spell-check is such a neat function! It doesn't take long either, so why don't people try to produce their answers in the best possible form?

Because it bespeaks of the 'dumbing-down' of our society. My assumption is that you are an American. Our systems of education have eroded. Text-speak has become the norm. And, unless you have a dictionary next to your computer, or know how to use spell check, misspellings and punctuation errors make you look like an idiot. Who wants to look like an idiot?

Because it points out the decline of education and the "Dumbing down" of the populace

You know, you are absolutely correct -- I just was guilty of that a few questions ago (although my response was meant more to be funny than critical). I never stopped to think about foreign people just learning English, young or learning disabled people ... yikes, thanks for pointing out how trivial and unthoughtful that kind of attitude could be ... so sorry!

I don't have OCD, but it is tricky to guess for some of the typos, if what they typed are real words, but they end up meaning something else. Changing the meaning of the question.

It is only happened to me a few times, since I usually am posting under a couple of topics only, but you feel like you are in a guessing game! You want to help them and give a clear answer.

I skip over regular typos.

They don't make a big deal when the mistakes are THEIRS. Only when they are other peoples mistakes. LOL

'Cos it shows that they don't put effort into typing?

I mean there's the backspace key to make amendments..

It's like they say: Think before you post, because what you post can be seen by everyone, everywhere, forever.

I make my share of typos and mis-spellings, but my parents taught me that it is the epitome of ignorance to mis-spell a word because anyone can look it up. Please don't take offense, I am just repeating what my parents used to drum into my head.

i'll point out GROSS typos, or if it makes the question funny (spots or stips[she ment stripes])

but the easy ones...i don't point out cuz i make typos ALLLL THE TIME(hm, ment is one....idk wat the right speling is)!

I have a few contacts with english as their second language...idk why, just WHY ppl must comment so much. One's 14!! her fisrt language is arabic! They point out the TINY things like "thats one runon sentence" or "you misspelled an easy one" or crap like that....wtf
