It's probably due to the fact that they are both primary colors and yellow is not a very common color. You see blue and red almost everywhere from television ads to the packaging of the food you eat [example being Pepsi, the American flag, the French flag, the Brittish flag....]
when I was little mum used to dress me in blue and my sister in red, which I thought sucked cos I wanted to be red. not sure why. dont even particularly like red. not sure if that has anything to do with your question but felt like sharing.
