Why do they call it Xmas? when its really Christmas?!

Question: no X involved.

Answers: no X involved.

man maded

That way people can take Christ out of Christmas.
It's also an easier way to use in ads.

don't know other than too lazy?

X is a traditional shortening of the word Christ. The X is the first three letters in the original Greek word for Christ. There's nothing anti-Christmas about it.

I cannot stand it when I see that..it drives me crazy.

Saves me from typing 5 letters.

because the x is like a cross and thats like CRISS
cross

x is the greek symbol for christ. so for short people just use the x. it still means christ-mas. merry christmas!!!!!!!!!!!

I do it if the space is too short. Others want to tell you it means I leave Christ out of Christmas, but it's for brevity's sake and I write Christmas where I have the room.

Quicker to type/write.
They used to use that for Christina Aguilera too.
Xtina.
Just sort of a short cut.

CHRISTmas indeed!!! He's been taken from our schools, our politics, our moral fiber-why do we need a holiday for Him? I personally celebrate Christ everyday.

To shorten the word. I think if they have to shorten the word they should use C-Mas.

Xmas is wrong. Who ever came up that idea is not a Jesus Fan. They are X ing out the Christ which is what Christmas is all about.

Athiest started it and it has caught on. Most people don't realize that it is an athiest remark. I've heard some ppl say that they just wrote it down b/c they didn't have enough room to spell out Christmas, if you ask me that's a bunch of bull! I don't care if I have to write on the wrapping paper. I'm going to put CHRISTmas. If it wasn't for Christ we wouldn't celebrate it anyway. More ppl need to realize that and stop trying to take Christ out of Christmas. It's not going to Happen!!!!!!

im not entirely sure, but once i wrote merry xmas on my friend's whiteboard and she was like GASP ERASE THAT RIGHT NOW!! thats like crossing out christ!! and im all....ummm watever....lol

because its a way for them to eliminate the real reason Christmas exists. There was an issue at LSU about the Christmas Tree being called a "Christmas Tree" so they actually changed the name to "Holiday Tree" but there were so many emails against it they changed it back. They are trying to eliminate God as much as they can but dont realize he isnt going anywhere...He is the creator off all.......
Christmas isnt really all about giving presents but now thats what is expected....the real meaning is forgotten

Lazy abbreviation put on by advertisers and retailers. Sort of disrespectful, isn't it? They have plenty of time to cake your hard earned cash, but not enough time or ink to spell out the real name of the holiday.

X-mas is just a short way of saying Merry Christmas

X is short for Christ. No one is trying to take Christ from Christmas (a myth).

It's probably because it's easier to say and type.

:) Merry Christmas

Well, contrary to some folks' unique view that the spelling represents the removing of Christ from Christmas, it's simply a shortened word version .... much the same as any other word contractions such as shortening "I have not" to "I haven't", or "I can not" to "I can't".
This is easier to write. I have never heard anyone actually say "Xmas" only write it that way.

It's just a word and not meant to be a religious comment or offense.
