QUESTiON?!?!


Question: Okay So I work at Applebees (it's a restaraunt) i've worked there for the past 9 months... and I've been sick for the past week.... literally like I can't smell or taste & i've been non-stop coughing... my father saved my a$s an called me into work this morning....well they asked if I was still interested in working there? He called in in enough time... My dad said well of course.... A friend from work texted me later in the day an said she thinks I might be fired? - - Can they legally fire me because i'm sick? I don't have insurance so i'm dreading going to the doctors.. but I have to get better... so i'm planning on going tomorrow.. Anyways anyone who knows anything on this?! I live in Minnesota (US) too by the way. . .

I can't see how they could fire you because you are sick. You aren't getting any benefits either. I think they might be able to make you prove you are sick though. But I would think it they did that, they would have to reimburse you for the Doctor's visit. I hope you feel better and can continue your job. Life is a ***** sometimes! It is just not fair sometimes. You see people abusing the system all the time and getting away with it, and a poor girl like you is really sick and all she wants is to keep her job, and she feels threatened. Good luck, my dear!

    Sadly enough, they can. Unless you have a doctor's excuse many employers can let you go for excessive absenteeism.
    I've seem this happen to many coworkers.
    You said you've been sick for the past week.
    Have you not been to work for the past week?
    If so, did you or your Dad call in every day or just this morning?
    If either one of you called in every day to let the boss know you were still sick, then yes he's a louse for threatening your job, but if you waited till this morning for either you or Dad to call in for you, I'm sorry to say your boss has a right to be angry and you may have just kissed your job goodbye!
    Almost nothing makes a boss angrier than so shows and no call ins at work.
    It just common courtesy to call and shows a boss you care about your job.
    you need to be given warnings first in order to be fired, you could get that but i doubt they'll fire you, unless of course you have already been warned
    Best thing you can do is go to the Doctor, at least he/she will be able to give you a note, and if you tell them you have been sick for a while, & work in a restaraunt, they may give you a note for the past days you have missed...you are at this point a health risk, working in a restaraunt, Doctors will understand.
    If your condiction is worse than you might think, you can file for F.M.L.A.= Family Medical Leave Act, they must hold your job for up to 12 weeks, it's the Law, I was just terminated due to an illness , but my FMLA ran out, so they could fire me, you need to see a Doctor, at the very least you will have docimtation that you was sick, then if they do fire you you can at least file for unemployment, I did and got it.     you need that doctors note...then they can not.
    it depends here in Utah they can. most employers will work with you, if you called in everyday you were scheduled. you may need a doctors note.
