Smokers and pet owners?!

Question: Do you ever think about your pets inhaling your smoke?
This will sound lame to most people but one of my most important reasons for giving up smoking was so my cats didnt breath my smoke in (indoor cats by the way)... as Im sure it would affect them too?
Does anyone else think im weird for thinking this? I do... but im so happy I gave up smoking...
So...do you ever think of your pets breathing that stinking stuff in at all?

Yes I do smoke, yes I did try giving it up & yes I think about what your asking all the time,I love my bird but he is inhaling our smoke & no it's not fair,I am guilty

You are quite right. Birds are particularly vulnerable to passive smoking.

yeah your wierd

You have a point. I dont smoke when non smokers come to visit me. I go outside if I'm desperate.

CONGRATS! :D no, you are not weird for thinking that!

i do how sad

Easy > smoke outside & put the dog on patches

I think you are a very kind thoughtful person and you are quite right to be concerned for your pets...good for you lets hope more people are as considerate as you...merry xmas..x

YEAH for you !!!

I don't think that's lame at all. I've often wondered the same thing about pets and second hand smoke.

Its one of the reasons I gave up smoking too, our vet told me our golden retriever had a heart problem and my smoking wasn't helping her at all, I gave up last July only to find out last October there was absolutely nothing wrong with our dogs heart at all but I am still glad I kicked the habit.

I smoke, but I wont allow my pets on my lap when I am and I blow the smoke in the opposite direction. My babies shouldn't have to suffer for my stupidity

well, they die much sooner inhalling much less smoke, so its a good thing to think about

i don't think it's weird at all. you love your kitties is all, i smoked indoors & i always felt guilty about it too. i moved in with a new roommate 3 months ago, i was excited to have a balcony to smoke on so i wouldn't have to stink up the apartment. but i actually decided to quit smoking instead, i did it cold turkey. anyways, now we live in a smoke free home & i feel much better.

I would never smoke in my house anyways so my dogs don't have to inhale it.

I wrestle with my bullmastiff for the last of my cigarettes...

He's hardcore.

thats a good idea, i agree

WHAT EVER HELPS AND WHAT EVER REASON
YOU HAVE TO GIVE UP SMOKING IS GOOD.

yes i do but think about it from time to time
i keep a window open and my cigarette away from them,i obviously am a smoker but when im not smoking and someone else lights up a cigarette i find it really bad inhaling their smoke ,and a dogs sense of smell is thousands time more sensitive than ours

You are right and I was so glad to stop smoking and my wee cat didn't have to breathe all that stuff anymore . Good for you !

Well done,

It's a shame that a lot more people don't think of their pets in the same way!

Did you know that caged birds, budgies and canaries in particular, are also very seriously affected by the fumes/vapours given of by frying food. It can kill them in a very short space of time.

You're not weird at all, just more awake and aware than most of the numpties out there!

I won't smoke inside if my dog's inside. He's a pug and I think it gave him a cough?
But he comes outside for a smoke with me anyway, so I don't know if it helped

No I have never thought about my dog when I smoke. But if she needs to follow me into the garden when I DO THE BAD THING. Then am sorry, But can you give up moaning about smokers. I bet you drive a car or are a passenger in one, and enjoy holidays abroad.

Your not weird at all,if you love your cats it's only right you would think about their health too.I also think it could affect animals so giving up will make both you and others around you, weather human or animal more healthy!
I too want to give up and it's a added incentive that my cats will benefit too.
I think it's cool that one of the reasons you gave up was for your cats.
Good on ya!

you did the right thing
