What should I do to keep my mind of smoking?!

Question: I'm trying to quit, yet again. I made it about a month last time. It's been probably 4 days and I feel like a crack head, it's not cool at all.

Ugh. All I can say is, it sucks. Just remember that after 3 days, the physical cravings are over. It's all in your head at this point. I recommend supplementing with weed. Good luck with that.

chew gum

oh my. thats my problem, too. whats ur brand?

i would get the candy cigarettes , this way the candy neutralizes the hunger and satisfies the oral fixation

Try heroin........

Chew gum or eat, it's better then smoking

I quit by chewing tons of gum. Good Luck I hope you are able to quit!! I know how hard it is

Eat, eat, eat, and eat some more.
Also you could try non stop sex.

yes, gum. and then go to your md, let him know what you're trying to do, and ask if Wellbutrin XL would be an option for you.

find something else to do...listen to music or something!! Bad habit! Good luck

Pray
Bible
Chew gum
Stay with positive people
Think positive
Sport game

It sure will work because your mind and you will get busy with things

associate smoking to sucking on something you would not be caught dead sucking on...get my drift? ;-)

I quit a couple of years ago, and I still have nic fits. You just have to ignore the empty feeling. If you really want to quit you will just stop. It's a decision.

each time u feel like smoking say the words
i can , i will , i must (controle)
this will create a strong will to quit smoking
and if possible keep ur self busy all the time
it will divert ur mind
slowly but surely u will be able to change
all the best

i agree with bob, chew gum.

Get yourself some sugar free hard lollies to suck on, try using a straw to simulate smoking (sometimes just performing the action can help take the craving away for a little while), go into a shopping center or the movies or anywhere that your not allowed to smoke. Good luck!!!

Just close your eyes, breathe deeply and imagine every moment you don't have a cigarette your body is becoming healthy and repairing itself. Imagine how great you'll feel when you aren't controlled by cigarettes anymore.

count the money you're saving by not buying those death-sticks
be thankful for your life.

ohhhh baby.

hey listen, i tried to quit a few months ago. that is an understatement ( feeling like a CRACK HEAD). if you are having a super hard time. you should go to your doctors and have them prescribe you some hard core meds to get you off off these cancer sticks.

after that, you need to keep really busy. i think doing a whole new life style change could help. like not drink things that you would normally enjoy with a cig. ie: soda. coffee. etc...
also, after you eat brush your teeth. the taste of food on your mouth will make you want a smoke. this falls into a the habit catogory. coz after we eat we like a smoke, like i said try to stay active, this is your best bet.

try to go to bed on time. the longer your up the longer the craving you will experience. i think in your sleep is the best time to get rid of the nicotine out of your system. you sleeping so don't feel the symptoms of with drawral.

i'm going to call the doc today as well, to get some meds. i developed a cold but the cough wont go away, i know its smokers cough. but, i like to think not.

well good luck hope this was helpful

Well, I'm not sure I can answer that question. But I can tell you how it happened that I quite smoking.

A long time ago when I proposed to my wife, the said that she would only marry me if I promised to give up smoking. So I did and our wedding finally occurred a couple months later. After the wedding and move in to our new home I was having a cigarette one morning with my coffee and she reminded me of my promise. I told her that when I made that promise I didn't give her a time or date that I would stop. I showed her the remaining seven packages of the original ten and told her that when I smoked the rest of these, that would be it. She reluctantly agreed.

About a week or so later I finally arose one morning to find my last cigarette remaining in the last package. I smoke it and made a vow to myself that that would be my last one ever. The years went by and there were times that I missed smoking, but it was never something that I would give in to. To this day, I have never again smoked.

Years later into what turned out to be a great marriage I developed symptoms that I thought may be heart problems. I got a complete checkup and my heart was ok. But they referred me to a lung specialist.

After much testing, xrays, etc. the lung specialist told me that I had COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and told me that it was almost always caused by smoking. I told him that I hadn't smoked in almost 25 years and, even when I did smoke, I had done it only for about ten years before I quit.

When I told him about my promise to my wife as a condition of marriage he told me that she probably saved my life.

I quit cold turkey after nine years of two packs a day. Cigs had gone up to 35 cents a pack and that was just too much for my budget. I bet they are three times that by now! Just suck it up, Sylas, you're a guy, for Chrissake!
