Did you hear about the "Swearing Nun"?!

Question: She is the principal of a school near Detroit, Michigan and she banned swear words on the playground and just so the students (5th-8th grades) knew she was serious she read off ALL the words she was talking about and also inlcuded "stupid" and "boring". Good idea? I think it is brilliant!

It beats the 'put your head in the sand and maybe it will get better' defense some have posted. Our children, and society, have been corrupted, partly as a result of the political correctness BS concept of not confronting bad behavior. If more people in responsible positions had the courage to stand up and teach what is right and wrong we'd all be in a lot better place.

F#ck no

sure it is a good idea

"That's stupid!"

she must have had a lapse in judgement.

How is Stupid and boring swear words - Stupid isn't very nice to call someone, but ban it - OMG

Isn't that nice... the Nun was leading by example. LOL

I live near detroit, and I haven't heard of that! That is a terrific idea, so many children use these words as part of their everyday vocabulary, and I remember when I was young and that age, I know kids didn't really swear hardly at all! I cant believe kids that age are using it every other word, or using cell phones, this society has become so messed up, and has lost touch with morals and values and everything that it's about time a modern day religious figure tries to step it up and fix things!

I didn't know stupid and boring were swear words and isn't reading off all the swear words sort of like teaching them to the children? I mean if they didn't know a word was a swear word they do now that she read them off the list.

I think it is a bad idea

Not really. If you want to keep children from doing something you don't make a big deal about them not doing whatever it is. That only makes them want to do it more.

In a way it is good to point out what is and is not considered a curse word. However I would imagine a lot of parents took issue with this.

Good for her! But, I bet some parent will challenge her for impeding their precious child's freedom of speech! Cudos to the nun.

I get sooo tired of seeing, "Are you bored?" questions on here.

What...? Good luck trying to stop that landslide......

not heard had no open tv couse it busy in my campus

good thinking, although the words "stupid" and "boring" aren't cuss words. besides kids should not be swearing at a Catholic school anyways

Good idea, but I would think it would be hard to enforce. There's a lot of one person's word against another if the bad words are not witnessed/heard by a teacher. It might also give kids ideas for words to use later (when they are not at school). But overall, a good plan.
