No, I really can't say I am that proud to be an American. And I certainly DO NOT think the USA is the greatest nation on earth. In addition, I don't think we have anymore freedoms than many European countries. I am from Nebraska. I am thankful that I am not in a country like Iraq, where children live in fear of being bombed or shot by the USA. We are at war for oil. I don't know about you, but I am not proud of the lies and deceptions of this country.
being born and raised here makes me appreciate what I have, what my fore fathers have fought and died for,,my freedom,my rights's to vote,free speech,being able to choose any religion,being able to walk down the streets and not have to worry about being detained because I might have said something to offend a "political" leader,,,we have so much to be thankful living in this country that so many take for granted,,,it may not be perfect every day,but I would not trade places with anyone outside the USA!! I am from Colorado and I am proud to be an American for many reasons, such as freedom of speech, justice for all, and so on. I would also like to say what I'm not proud of: I'm not proud of the fact that there are so many Americans who say they are not racist and would never openly call someone a racist slur, yet they feel this doesn't apply to Islam or Muslims. I hate that I have to feel afraid for my children's lives because they are part Arab, I hate that the media shows only the bad side of Islam and Arabs, and not the whole truth. I hate that the government thinks that Americans are stupid and blindly follow them and I hate that Americans have stopped searching for the truth. I love my country. I am and will always be proud to be American. I just wish other people would open their eyes and see how America really is.

There is only percieved freedom in USA. For example, you have the biggest porn industry in the world, yet when Janet Jackson had her "wardrobe malfunction" the country was in uproar. Ask Bill Clinton about freedom, an affair cost your best president for years his job, yet you have the highest divorce rate in the world. You still have capital punishment, how many innocent people have been killed in the name of justice. Ask the minority races how much freedom they have. Then you have the "three strikes" law, how many people are in prison for having a joint, etc? Your country is so P.C. that you no longer have freedom of speech. Everything is so full of double standards. Nice place for a holiday, but I wouldn't want to live there. I'll stay in Europe,thank you
America is a great nation but we have our fair share of problems. I am proud but not so proud of our image globally as of the past few years. There are also some disturbing trends involving the work force which could be much better. We seem to idolize the elite and forget about the poor. We force our working class to depend on overtime to survive and our health care system leans toward the wealthy. Our constitution was designed to instill freedom even though we allowed slavery to exist 100 years afterward. The patriot act has cast a shadow on our bill of rights and invasion of privacy without anyone even looking. If we want to keep our nation as a symbol for freedom we have to practice what we preach. This country needs to focus more on a stable wage and our standard of living. If the trends keep going in reverse nobody will believe in the system which is a mistake.

Firstly, I'd like to say that you are not entirely accurate in saying that Americans have more freedom than any other nation.
Secondly, I fail to understand why you are proud to be American. You are a nation hated exclusively by literally every other nation on Earth...that's something to be proud of? I must admit, that pop culture wouldnt be the same without America. Great television, movies etc etc, but all that aside you are actually pretty gay
