Question: You know, for big people at christmas time. Should I be embarresed if my sister in law asks me out loud what size shoes I wear or should I just give her a hint - double digits?
How do you know what size to get people clothes without sounding mean or interested? Same question for underwear.

get a gift certificate so they can go get what they want. I wear a size 4 if you want to buy me something though!

I make it a rule to never buy other people clothes, shoes, underwear - it's too easy to offend someone.
go ahead and ask.if she gets offended then screw her.real close knit friends/family are not afraid to ask any question.
It depends on how close you are to them. If you don't feel comfortable asking then don't try to guess. I once had someone buy me a shirt that was 2 sizes to big and it kind of hurt my feelings to think that they thought I was that size. It would probably be better to ask someone close to them, like there husband or wife or parents, and they can peek for you.

it really depends on how you structure your question, or how you put the person you want to ask in the mood for the topic. no matter how politely you ask a person, your question won't sound as polite as you ought it to be if it isn't the right time and place.
