Whats the all time best medicine for cold sores?!

Question: not kidding i want the top of the line

Answers: not kidding i want the top of the line

Abreva. Bar none. Swear by it. Put it on as soon as you feel one popping up, and it won't. It heals them quickly, too. Campho Phenique is a GREAT pain reliever for them, but doesn't really speed up healing time.

Don't use a moisturizer like chapstick or vaseline, cold sores are caused by a virus and need to be dried out, not fed by those other things.

It's so true, that's what I'm putting on my lip tonight! :( Report It

  • vaseline . trust me!

Not kissing people with cold sores.

i hear abreva works pretty good

    blistex.

They say "Abreva" but it's expensive for that little tube!

There is no cure for herpes sorry

    VASELI NE

Abreva, got one last week used it and its gone i recommend it...!!!

Lysine pills. They are a supplement that assists healing of tissue and I just take them throughout the day.

dab of ambesol. dab of blistex in a tube. don't touch it.

The best is by prescription, either Denavir 1% or Zovirax 5%. Call your doctor. The second best is the Over The Counter stuff, Abreva.

Tincture of Benzoin. Puts a coating over the sore to keep it from cracking open, which premotes healing. Does however burn like Hell at first.

    abreva

Take L-Lysine regularly and you won't get em. Get some Zovirax Ointment to keep on hand and use it at the first sign and they go away before they even get started. This crap is expensive as hell but well worth it. (The Zovirax, the L-Lysine is cheap).

i use a non alchohol and non additive aloe vera made by fruit of the earth. it works really well for me.

treat it with ice until you can buy Abreva

    No kidding, Zovirax(acyclovir) ointment 5%.
You have to have s RX for it but it works really good. It also comes in a pill form as well.

I hear Abreva was good. I've also known people to use Campho Phenique (sp?). Both are over the counter.

I have suffered from those nasty things since I was a baby! It is aweful isnt it? Anyways I did some experimenting and a ton of research and found that peppermint oil has been found to really really really shorted healing time even permit healing! So....normally I use Abreva which works OK, but once I used the peppermint oil it was gone within a few days!

heres what I read...despite the warning at the end not to ingest peppermint oil is in many many natural remedies at health food stores nationwide...
    Peppermint Oil
A study by the University of Heidelberg found that peppermint essential oil was found to penetrate the skin and have a direct virucidal effect againt the herpes simplex virus. Peppermint oil was also found to be active against an acyclovir-resistant strain of the herpes simpex virus.

Although it's promising, peppermint oil shouldn't be used until studies have established its safety. Peppermint oil is absorbed through the skin so even small amounts could be toxic. Peppermint oil should never be ingested.

The exact name of the medicine I used on mine is
Quantum Herbal Products Super Oxygenated Cold Flu Formula....I read the back and seen it contained peppermint oil...it worked great!! ( Also I just read that licorice can help and it also contains that)

I would recommend the antiviral creams such as, Denavir or Zovirax. Both are FDA approved and seem to help considerably for the herpes simplex virus. Of course, the sooner either are applied the better. There is no cure. But, these creams have been known to accelerate the healing time. They are both prescription only medications. So, a doctors appointment will be required.

    Campho Phenique...

Not that I have them... I just heard that from my "friend"...

its an ism...ill tell ya that much

then again thats ALSO the leading cause oof em

Not sure I remember when I was a kid, my mom would put
campho Phenique, blistex, or triple-antibiotic salve on us kids if we ever got a cold sore.

The BEST - it's called Lipactin, and it is sold in Canada. It is Heparin Sodium, an ointment you can buy over-the-counter. I've gotten them infrequently over the years, since maybe 5 years old, when my friend's little brother gave me many, many kisses with "trench mouth," as they called it back then. I haven't had one in probably 5 years, and only have them when my body's resistance gets quite low. But this stuff really works. I don't understand why our FDA will not approve of this proven miracle of a treatment, unless it is about...$$$??? Nahhh...

You could probably get it online...

Put some hydrogen peroxide on it and take more vitamins, especially vitamin C. Get more sleep and you will be fine. Sometimes those things are caused by a low immune system, so get more sleep. I used to get them a lot, but not anymore, but I do take my vitamins.

    One word. CARMEX.

Yuck you have herpes!! No cure for that.
