Right in the middle of the questioning, stand up, and in LOUD voice proclaim "Hey, you with the robe. I demand to be released. No one is going to pay your stupid ransom, so either let me go or kill me now!"

I wouldn't know, since the two jury duties I've had to attend I never went to. =|
Read, knit, crotchet, crossword puzzles.
Act biased, judgemental and overly opinionated and you won't get picked.However if you are the primary care giver of someone they will dismiss you if you tell them and take you off the list for a couple years.
Ask them to repeat what they are saying. Act like you don't understand why you are there. Sneeze a lot and say you got terrible allergies to other peoples laundry detergent. Hehehe good luck!

Bring a book. You don't want to be staring at the back of someones head for 8 hours...trust me.
I'd pack up on PDA, cell phone, any work assignments, any portable games. Most likely there will be plenty of magazines. And dollar bills to put into the snack machines.
Once you are in the courtroom, you can't do anything. Bring something to read...your preference.
