When you were a kid.....?!

Question: didn't you ever ask your parents why Santa didn't give presents to the poor kids? I'm not interested in the response "I didn't believe in Santa" or anything like that, so it will have no shot at best answer.

I believed in Santa Claus until I was 5 or 6 years old. I found easter candy in the kitchen cupboard that was exactly what the Easter Bunny had brought in our baskets. When I asked Mom about it, she said, "You don't really believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus anymore do you?" A rude awakening to fantasy.

At the age of 5, I had no real picture of what life for most people could be like. I knew I had a home and went to school, was clothed and fed, and believed that all children had the same. Naive as that, though each year of life, taught by other people, the positive and negative aspects of life.

Even television, at that time, would have painted a rosy picture, because even though a story might have been aired where the child was poor, the miracle of Santa would still have presented itself because most television ended happily.

Even the poor kids got presents from Santa when I grew up.

nop..
cause I thought every kid would have presents....

yeah, i remember asking that and my dad said it was because the poor kids had no way of contacting him.

to be honest, i was the poor kid. and i asked that question all the time.

no I never asked because I knew my parents were poor

I thought santa gave presents to everyone

I actually never thought about that when i was a kid... i was just focused on me and my family...

The poor kids DID get presents from Santa.

I don't remember asking anything like that. I may have... but cannot remember... Why did your child ask you that? If so you have a very sweet and sensitive kid.

i didn't really pay attention back then, but i do now and i joined a group that will help with that this year!

What is Santa?

I just assumed that everyone got presents...

I did, I did not understand why Santa would pick and choose, specially with good kids that just happened to be poor, so I actually disliked Santa regardless of the presents I got.

well i did thnk about it but never asked. but then alter on i seen on tv (news) that "santa" was giving out small gifts to homeless and poor people.

So, why did you ask the question in the first place, if you are not interested in the answer?

My parents simply said Santa delivered them to everyone.

I thought everyone got presents so really it had no bearing on my thoughts and such.

No, I always assumed that he did. But Santa only brought us one or two gifts at my house. Everything else came from our parents or relatives. I always thought the poor kids just didn't have family or they obviously didn't have enough money. Santa also did not wrap the presents he brought to us. They were left unopened under the tree.

well I wasn't rich so ,no I never asked

When I was younger and believed in Santa Claus I didn't realize there were poor kids out there that didn't get presents. When I was 4-5 yrs. old we were poor and I wanted a baby doll for Christmas but got a coloring book and peanut brittle instead. Didn't think about the fact that Santa should have been able to get me the doll even if we were poor.

Frankly, I have never believed in SANTA, either.

Poor children not getting presents at christmas isn't something you really understand/know about before you stop believing in Santa.

I was one of those poor kids but I didn't know it at the time. I got used toys and hand me downs but it was all new to me and I loved it.

no but my kids have asked me this, that's a toughy. My son is on the brink of finding out the truth about Santa thanks to some bigger kids on the bus, it was bound to happen but, now i'm concerned he'll think we're liars because we have let him believe in Santa...ugh!!!

No... like most young kids I was self-absorbed and only worried about what Santa was bringing me! But I also grew up in a very rural community where I wasn't exposed to huge differences in class.

I asked them that same question when I was 6 years old and they simply said that he had something far greater to give to the needy kids.

I always asked my mom that, and she would buy some toys and donate them to the Salvation Army with the Santa there :) That always made me feel better, I still donate toys to the Salvation Army to this date

I don't think I ever thought of that as a kid, I was probably very wrapped up in the presents I was getting myself but around here I know that the church gives to all the poor people so they probably had presents too. I never lived in a city so I guess I have never know a poor family that didn't get presents. Or I guess what im trying to say is that I didnt know any kids when I was a kid that didn't get presents.

I never thought about that at all. I assumed every good kid received presents, even if they were poor. I think, when you are just a little kid, you don't really think about the differences between the poor and the middleclass and that you only really envy the richer persons.

In the first place christmas isn't about Santa. Christmas is about Jesus Christ.
