I don't have any tricks to remembering, I think it's just a case of reading (good) literature often and getting your mind used to what's right and what's wrong in terms of grammar and spelling.

I recently heard that only something like 60% of the population have the ability to spell correctly (not that the others are ignorant- they're simply not genetically disposed to that sort of thing). Whether that's true, I don't know, but i think a lot of 'ability' comes from our experience and practice of reading. Apparently I read and was read to a lot when I was a kid. I don't remember much of it, but I'm (usually) a bit handy with the old words, so I think there's some connection.

EDIT: There are two people (above) who have given examples as ways of remembering. I'm sad to say that they're actually wrong in their use of the words... Just get yourself some good books and enjoy reading- don't 'study' it.

LA Woman, it's 'I did WELL in English,' not 'I did good.' Just so ya know ;-)

na i never remeber things like that.....x

I do and thank you for the school lesson.

There and their are easy so are where and were, but stationary/ery I always get stuck on. Thanks for the tip.

also they're.

what?????

common knowledge i remember by writimg often

tHERE, not HERE.
tHEIR inheriting, and I'm not the HEIR
wHERE are you going? are you coming HERE?
wERE all going away on a Holiday without a H.

Sorry, best I can do?!

there= i went there once
their=i love my family as their so happy together
where=where are we going
were= were you going to get that or something

i know the difference but explaining how is something wlse its the way we were taught

"Their" refers to people; "where" refers to location. That's how I remember.

Well, it's really easy because they all mean different things and used in different sentences.

I went to private school and did good in english and I tend to get aggravated when people don't use the right form of a word in a sentence. That's how I remember!

Me! I got Higher English at school...........

stationery and stationary - remember that stationery needs an E for envelope....

There vs their - if its theirs, an I for 'myself - ownership'

The key is finding a way to relate to it in your own way...

Just experience I guess.

Their, there, they're never mind.

There is Central Park
Their family was in Central Park.
Where is Central Park?
We were in Central Park.

It's called having an education.

i haf no ideer wot yuo is torkn abot i ham anufar brylent mine distryd buy de publik educashun sistem int i.

There - There was, Over there, There they are
Their - ownership, its their cat,
They're - They are
Where - where are you, this is where their house is
Were - were you going to drink that
Wear - do you want to wear your blue top to their place
We're - we are

i know check me

were is your house?

we where is the garden

it is there car

is there a garden

yes i know the difference, and it annoys me when people put the wrong word in eg there coats were pink! it annoys me!!

i cant help it, thats what a strict dad does to you! he made me and my brother and sister learn spellings for one hour each night after school!

strangely though, i love english and it was my favourite subject at school!
