my husband does the AA thing....he has been sober for almost 16 years!!! I am so very proud of him!!!!!
i did for almost a year. meetings where i live arent that great. not to say its like that everywhere but around here the men are more concerned about getting in your pants and everybody seems to think its ok to smoke pot or take pills as long as they arent drinking.
so my freinds and i, who are all in recovery also, just hang out together and talk about recovery. but meetings do work for some people.
I tried it for quite a while. It didn't work for me, and I thoroughly worked their 'program'. I couldn't get sober with the assistance of AA, I got sober by myself.
I know more about AA than the bulk of the 'old timers' that I have known, so my issues with AA are not ones of ignorance. I always felt like I was in some sort of cult, regardless of how much the members tried to deny that it was a cult, or a religion. AA is good for many people, but even their big book says AA is not for everyone.
