This is an example of what happens in a Theocracy. Because it is happening to a UK citizen, everyone is taking notice, but it happens all the time. The very idea that such a stupid concept as blasphemy is a crime is primitive and barbaric. We should be very glad we live in a secular nation, and fight to keep it that way.
Personally I think that the UK ought to withdraw all aid to the country - forever. This is what happens when you treat a backward uncivilised country like equals.

Just goes to show how intolerant the Muslim world is. The teacher didn't name the bear, the children did. Therefore, the children and/or their parents should be punished if this is, in fact, a crime.

Well, I think it was quite naive of a teacher working in an Islamic country. It's one of the strange contradictions in life that those who teach are often quite ignorant. (I guess I will get the thumbs down from all the teachers out there...I know there are some excellent teachers in the world)
Looking at the lady, she does look very nice, but a bit simple, and the real question is, who has given her this job? And couldn't the head teacher or other staff have given her some guidance?Or did she send out that letter without running it past the head teacher, and if so, has she been a bit arrogant as well as a bity naive?
But I did feel sad when I heard that a little boy in the class said that the teddy bear was named after him.
You're right, it is very sad that the world is like this, but it is like this, and we all need to educate ourselves and be sensitive to the situation we are in. So my answer is, I don't think she should get 40 lashes - that's barbaric. But I also think she needs some re-training, and I wouldn't recommend that she works as a teacher outside the UK.

Its not as if she did it with intent. Even if she did - so what?!
If an immigrant broke a law in this country which was accetable in their home country, we'd be up in arms, so we shouldn't be too surprised at their reaction.
However, I hope the courts realise that it was done innocently and not meant to offend, and that the teacher was naive in not researching the local culture more thoroughly.
It is absolute madness.
