It is with mixed emotion....?!

Question: ...that I am asking a serious question here in P&S, but I must...

What is a good gift for a 2 and 4 year old boy?

and...A single mother of 2....?
Don't worry over price, although a 3 bedroom home is out of the question...

A computer for her so she can log on to P&S to get away from life... and a refrigerator box for the kids...they'll have more fun with that then anything you could purchase

Edit:
Sounds to me like she is someone who thinks of others first, so a computer with a 16" monitor just for her would be perfect :)

Nothing from China.

Everything for 1.5 $.

Age appropriate toys for the kids. Just go to Toys R Us and find something there. Kids love toys on Christmas.

The single mother? Not so sure. How about a gift card to the mall.

2 year old - anything which makes a lot of noise and flashing lights
4 year old - iTeddy
single mum - pampering/spa day

Learning Center for the boys and a day of pampering at a spa for the mother.

probably clothes in thier size or some kind of little cars maybe a little tool set, a plastic one, my stepson got one of those last year and he loves it, he also likes the transformers and spiderman, I guess it would depend on what they like, but I guess that was some kind of idea, and for the mom, I'm sure it would be enough that her kids get something

Toys and warm clothing for the boys. If the mother is in financial straits, then a food basket, and whatever her other needs are.

Awww! How sweet! The mom would probably love to have a day off (babysitter for a day). For the kids, at that age, the traditional doll and train set would be fine. Awww one more time! ?

A single mother of 2:

some sort of spa treatment, manicure, pedicure etc. Something to pamper her, depending on how well you know her. If you do not want to be so personal then either get her grocery cards or gift cards to various restaurants so when she is tired she won't have to cook.

For the kids I seriously would ask the Mom if swimming lessons or something like that at the Y would be helpful to her. I have a friend that is a single Mom and my husband and I got them karate lessons one year to give her a break. She wanted to send them but couldn't afford it. She could read while they had their lessons. Nice break for all.

ANY age appropriate learning toy, and for the mother, a gift certificate to a local grocery.
KUDOS!
Since our family no longer exchanges gifts (except for the wife and kids, of course) I make an EXTRA Christmas donation to a local food panrty myself.
May your Y!A stars be noted by God or whomever you most believe in.

when my boys were 2 and 4 they loved anything like tonka trucks and really enjoyed playing with a big war craft carrier that they have at KB toys,it is huge and has a bunch of toys that come with it, none so small as to let the 2 year old put them in his mouth. I would stay away from any video game type things, I wouldnt introduce such a mind numbing thing at this age.

For the mother if at all possible I would get her a spa package and a babysitter for the day. Being a single mother she would enjoy even a small amount of time to be pampered herself

love to help - unfortunately have no clue - most I can offer is a theme park pass

Give the little kids toys, lots of toys, some fun, musical card, or some sort of a surprise-toy for the little one, a teddy, a car, I don't know, but I'm thrilled at the thought of being 4 and receiving presents. and, oh, ask their mom if she has arranged for a santa to pass by their place or something, and for the kids to see him, if not, maybe you can do that.

For the mom... that depends on your level of closeness to her. a pair of fine ear rings, or a beautiful dress, I don't know, I can't think much about what us, grown-ups want. :-<

as tacky as some people think gift certificates are, this might be your best bet. would you want to get a child a toy if they really needed a warm coat or a pair of shoes for winter?

Aren't boys big on trucks? Is Tonka still out there, or the big colorful building blocks you should be able to find anywhere. If you're not worried about cost and they have the room, what about a Playschool sandbox....boys LOVE to dig in sand.

All of the above they could easily play with together and get miles of entertainment out of.

As for mom, what about some spa treatment(s) at a local day spa? You can never go wrong with a gift certificate for her to choose the treatments she is most comfortable with.
You of course would throw in the babysitter while she is off having a good day...best yet if you babysat the boys yourself!

Good luck and Merry Christmas!!

the boys i have covered,,2 year old , practically anything will do,,as he is still young enough,,play-set from fisher price,, blocks, anything that will build up the hand , eye coordination,, the 4 year old,, v smile computer game,,range 40$ . but it is easy for a 4 yr. old to play, match box cars,,,the single mother of 2,,,well if it's hard for her to get a babysitter, mabe get her some bath products, so she can enjoy a nice bath,, mabe some candles and a comfy soft pair of pj"s,, the newest novel, or a bottle of wine ( also for after the kids go to sleep) if she has sitter's ,,mabe take her out on the town,a nice restaurant,, a movie , you could take her ice skating somewhere,,anything that will be just " for her " is a nice gift,,

As far as the mom, a bottle of perfume, or any kind of bath stuff, something from bath and body is nice they have gift sets that come with bubble bath, lotion body spray and a candle. All women like that stuff. Depending on how much you REALLY like this woman, you could get her a piece of jewelery
For the 2 and 4 yr old, ( been a long time since my kids were that age) elmo is a big thing, so anything with elmo for the 2 yr old...just look on the box at the store and see what the age is it will tell you not recommended for children under ___age
the 4 yr old would like any toy...trucks, finger paints, a dvd of sesame street or any show that he enjoys watching. Look around the stores and make sure you pay attention to the age on the box. Dont let the shopping stress you out. Have fun with it and enjoy it.

My 4 year old boy loves cars and trucks, building blocks and lincoln logs. When he was 2 he really enjoyed the larger sized legos and play sets with little people.
A single mom would love just about anything Buk.

I have a grandson that is almost 4 and well, he likes to pretend he's cooking so we got him some dishes and fake food. He also likes anything associated with Spiderman. And if I were a little boy, I'd want one of those helicopters that fly through the air with a remote.

As far as mom, I'd get her a gift certificate to a day spa. I love those things. They pamper you like you've never been pampered before. Bath and Body works has nice packages too for pampering yourself.

My two-year-old grandson loves dinosaurs and cars. He can play for hours with them. There is a new toy out too that I bought for Christmas that is a video type game by LeapFrog called Little Leaps. It helps youngsters learn their numbers and letters and other fun learning activities.

For the four years old, probably pretty much the same. But since they are just about school age, maybe the Leap Pad for Pre-K or K with a cartridge or two. My granddaughter loved hers when she was that age. I bought her the dinosaur cartridge and a nature one.

As you can tell, I am not into toys that don't serve a purpose.

Good luck and please email me that PP link. Thanks!

As a soon-to-be single mother I would love a day trip to a spa! As for the kids, a gift card for Toys R Us so they can pick out what they want! Good luck!

For the single mother of 2... Gift certificates for messages to undue the stress. She probably doesn't by things for herself that she needs, such as underclothing or pajamas or socks, instead buys them for the boys. She probably never gets to have her hair done. She may need clothing for the boys. Help with the daycare expense, if she doesn't have a relative to watch the boys. She probably has to use a laundramat... so if you can get a gift certificate for that, it would take some stress off. If your not pickin' up what I'm puttin' down yet...I'm trying to say that anything that lightens the amount of stress she lives with everyday, day in and day out, is the best kind of christmas present you can get her. (Oh yea, that could include FIXING things that are broken in her apt that she can't do herself. Like a dressor drawer that isn't closing right.)

For the 2 year old, I always go for big trucks, they have them with soft plastics for that age group, so they don't end up needing stitches. Legos are always a sure bet, but go for the medium size. The super big ones aren't any fun to them when they get older, but they will still use the medium sized ones at least up to 12 (so far, he still plays with them). The little legos are too dangerous for a house with a 2 yr old, and they are a disaster to try to keep picked up. Action figures are a good idea, even at 2. You just need to look for one that's a tad bigger, and doesn't have small pieces with it. Probably at 4, power rangers are good. At 2, more like sesame street. The wooden puzzles with big pieces are good, too.

hey lill bro..good question, but you know i'm no good at this either...i'm glad you are getting some great ideas here!!

i'm not good at shopping too... but here goes nothng....

for the kids i guess any toy that moves... batt operated....

....just stay away from dildos...

for the mom of 2.....

...maybe a rolex or the likes.....

......someone to be with for the rest of her life is better!

....and stay away from dildos too....

With boys of that age you can't ever have too many Hot Wheels. My little 22 year old MR foster brother (that my mother has guardianship over) has one of those 5 gallon 20 gallon totes that is about half way full of Hot Wheels and when we go to visit my 13 year old and he still get it out, dump it in the middle of the floor and play witht he cars. I enjoy giving educational toys so I think that one of those Vtech games or Leap Frog things would be a nice thing. Clothes is always a good and practical thing as well. Ride On toys like the old Big Wheels are always a popular item (but hard to store if they live in a small house or apt).
