Yeah, they don't make 'em like they used to! Especially electrical stuff. My mum's had a washing machine for over 10 years, I've had 3 in that time!

Yup me too and here is an example. My wife has purchased two mixers from walmart. Both have broken within 6 months to a year. So... I went to our family storehouse and grabbed me grandma's mixer (Which she got from her mom) and it worked just fine.

Electrical items don't last long because they are made cheaply and this reflects on their longevity. I have had my washing machine for 15 years and although I've had the pump replaced once, nothing else has gone wrong (fingers crossed!)
I bought a new fridge freezer 4 years ago and it has been repaired 3 times. Buying second hand is a viable option if it comes with a guarantee.

yer its so true, its because these days companys put money before customer satisfaction, so product is cheaper to make and has to be replaced more often

older is better in certain was take the mettle they build cars out of today you lean on them and you get a dent old cars you could dance on the top and nothing would happen ,,,,but if you take an old fart like me then your better bet would trade me in for a new model .

Yes I do

older does seem to last longer things like washing machines cookers fridges and freezers. I did speak to an engineer who was repairing our 5 month old dishwasher and he said a maximum of 5 years life span on these sort of items..
If you go behind a car transporter taking new cars look at the rust on the bottom of so called new cars!!

i agree...they more work into it back then!

Furniture was superior to what is being built today with pressboard and plywood. The cars yes yes yes I am a Vintage and Antique car buff. My favorite? The 1953
Buick Roadmaster convertible with wire wheels and leather interior..........This care is pure class......!

We live in a 'throw away' society. When things break down, instead of repairing them, they get thrown away and a replacement is bought. There is no provision in our society anymore for tradesmen to 'repair' things - they merely replace with 'spare' parts or replace the whole piece of equipment entirely.

I too am the product of 'spare' parts, having had spare part replacement surgery and am awaiting even more repalcement surgery. Eventually I will become fully bionic, so who am I to complain????

Yes I do, especially when it comes to houses. Older houses are bigger and more durable, whereas new houses are smaller and in some cases you don't get a garden

yeah your right Kitti old stuff is built better and lasts longer xxx

old is better and sometimes much more expensive than the newer ones...

Is it possible to kill a microwave, regardless of when it was manufactured? I haven't found one yet that I could.

Tvs are better since they went from tubes to transistors, circuit boards, and diodes.

Best car I ever owned was a 1953 Chevy station wagon. It had a flathead six and a three on the tree. I sold it for scrap cuz I got tired of it in 1985, it was still running and had approx. 400,000 miles on it.

The horsehair, cotton, and springs they used to use in chairs were a lot more comfortable than the foam and other materials they use nowadays.

But I would not want a computer from the 1970s.

yes

yes

old things were stronger and safer. New things r cheaper than they used to be but these have very long life. .

Older the better

More better I don't know. If you not surplus luxe , old is easy to repair itself. New apparatuss one can better replace by a another apparatus to buy.
Polite greet from speelseegel;Belgium.

I do

old is better......
