Firstly it's how they learn to talk by hearing other people talk to them. Also I think they also get used to hearing different peoples voices.

I know its weird that but they do learn and pick things up that is why swearing is out. My 3 Year old son will repeat anything and it is surprising how smart they are he can say Thomas The Tank engine 1000's of times ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

It's never too early to learn although it can be too late as I think your language skills demonstrate.
