It's just a saying. But in my opinion it means you sleep calmly until someone shakes you awake.
People often say things without studying the literal meaning of their words. Often, too, they are merely repeating the words they have heard other people say hoping to be accepted into the ilk they are mingling with.

Good question Clo. I think it's because babies have nothing to weigh on their minds like we adults do.
Honestly? That pretty much is how I sleep, can't remember the last time I slept all the way through the night.
No wonder I can be such a SOB sometimes, too little sleep. lol
