Punctuality in the workplace?!

Question: I am a trainee manager and have to write my first memo about punctuality as a lot of the staff have been arriving late and leaving early. the lunch break is 30mins and some have been taking a little longer.

My own manager won't help and says that I have to learn on my own....(boy will he regret that decision)

what the heck do I write in this thing? google has been helpful with regards to layout but I'm not sure what I can say.

anyone have any suggestions?

I'm scared, lol, I've never done this before.

Some bosses are just sooooooo helpful, aren't they?

I would say something like

"It has been noticed that some employees have been arrive late to work, leaving early, and taking extended lunch breaks. It is now necessary for Management to remind the employees of the regulations pertaining to tardiness. Tardiness has a negative impact on productivity and is disruptive to others in the workplace. Going forward tardiness will be addressed in the following manner:
(here you would establish a policy for handling people who are late, or restate the company policy)"

Then, sign it "Management" NOT your name specifically.

Good luck!

just write a memo that is straight to the point and punish ppl with verbal warnings for tardiness

Now the time has changed, you have to go to the computer and
punch there show your finger then only...........u will get a attendance.be careful.

15 min early is on time, on time is late in my opinion. start the memo with there will be a 5 minute grace period, any lateness beyond that will result in a write up, 3 write ups will result in a suspension and can lead to termination. the people who are late do that because there are no ground rules set and they know they can get away with it.

Punctuality is a part of professionalism. If you expect to be paid on time and without excuse, we expect you to reciprocate.

Scared, that's a joke. You're supposed to be the boss. Tell them if they continue to violate the rules they're fired!

Start out how its come to your attention that some employees have been arriving late and leaving early for lunch.
Tell them you understand delays may occur but if becomes a habitual occurance steps may have to be taken to correct the problem.
Outline the company's attendence policy and ask if there are any questions please feel free to ask.
I'm a supervisor and I feel you on this one.

Hi. Stop worrying. You have been asked to write a report and as a manager (even a trainee one) you must do this with conviction and honesty.

You need to stop worrying about what people say and think more about what you want to be. A Manager is a person that staff must trust and respect. This does not require you to be nice all the time.

Collate the facts, report the facts. DO NOT make things up or exaggerate them. Speak the truth at all times and be willing to stand by what you have reported.

I am a manager and very proud of the fact I am firm but fair to everyone. If something needs saying then say it. Watch the Apprentice sometime and see all those people who fail because they spend more time thinking and less time doing.

Best of luck for the future.
