Are eating contests in bad taste in your opinion?!

Question: It was in the news today that some feel eating contests are in bad taste. I find them quite stupid and nonsensical. What is the point trying to be proved, that you are a glutton? Your thoughts?

My opinion:

Yes !!!! Especially for those of us to whom are trying to "take off the weight".

Ignorance is something - many are over blessed with. And health factors are thrown to the wind.

nope... they are humourous

Hate them. It is so gross to watch. Found it clicking through the channels one night and was so grossed out, I almost lost my dinner!

I think they are gross and they glorify over eating. With todays growing obesity rates, it's sending a negative message.

They certainly don't help the obesity rates!

I think they are kinda of funny. Why on earth would you want to cram all that food in your body? Not to mention all that wet soggy bread from hot dog eating contest gross.

But I guess everyone has some hidden talent.

It's more about endurance than anything. It all started by someone saying "hey I bet you I can eat more than you". And they just kinda made a sport out of it. It all kinda goes back to the whole I'm somehow or someway better than you thing, and the whole survival of the fittest thing in my opinion. Everybody wants to be the best at something, so we have tons of practically useless things like this. But hey, it's entertaining, and I actually would like to try it out someday. There are a few foods that I can eat an exorbitant amount of without feeling full, so maybe I'd have a shot at it. But hey if we got rid of everything that was practically useless, we would not have any tv or radio (except for news), arts, music, fashion, and etc. These things have no real value. Society as a whole doesnt need them, but we like and enjoy them. So we keep them around.

no...in most cases the professional eaters are like way skinny and healthy...the biggest risk they have is not being overweight but damaging their esophagus from trying to chug down so much food...
