I would be so flush with anger that I would assume the relationlship was down the drain. I would look for a paper trail.

It could be left up from cleaning.
It may not have been used since your last forgotten visit.
It may have been used by an innocent visitor/ friend/ trades-person/ family member they forgot or chose not to mention diplomatically, due to your paranoia.
It could be --like a girlfriend of mine -- it was left up out of consideration for me as I'd leave it down out of consideration for her.
So if your partner WAS cheating, you'd be unaware -- or acceptant of fidelity -- if she left the seat down?
