I don't think she is underappreciated. If you saw Basic Instinct or Casino, you would recognize her talent and beauty, as did most people who saw those very popular and successful films.
However, as happens to all of us, she has aged, and women over 40 have difficulty getting good roles in youth-oriented Hollywood. Although she has been in a number of recent films, they are not the big budget, heavily promoted films that she was featured in a decade ago.
Some times yes and some times no. In my opinion the worst actress ever was Sophia Coppola in Godfather III. She's a great director now though.
Sharon Stone comes from a little town near where I live. She won our local county title at the fair...yet, I find her acting ability to look fake and forced. A shame...
