Dogs for sure. They love you unconditionally, they are eager to please, eager to learn, eager to play, quick to forgive, and comfort you when you are sick or feeling bad. They are serious when it's time to work and laid back when it's time to play. They can understand your emotions. They will protect their family. They respect your authority and are your friend to the end.
You can't say the same for cats. I can't understand why anyone would pick a selfish cat over a creature as wonderful as a dog.

I like them both, but prefer cats. Dogs are so wimpy, but cats are independent. Dogs think you are "god", but cats know they are. LOL
