What do you suggest ?!

Question: I have the opportunity to go into a U.S military base Commissary (it's a huge grocery store), to buy anything I want so I can make a nice Thanksgiving dinner for my friends.

Besides the turkey ...what are the key things to buy..even for desserts etc. to make the best meal ever ?

First, buy only fresh veggies!
Gravy can be made from canned broth or turkey drippings.
Potatoes, mashed with butter and sour cream.
For stuffing; corn or potato bread and wheat bread (it's best to mix it up, better to buy loaves and dry it yourself),olive oil, butter, celery, onions (red and vidalia),carrots, canned turkey or chicken broth, poultry seasoning, bay leaves, thyme and fresh garlic.
Try green bean casserolle with fresh green beans, cream of mushroom soup, black pepper, and a can of French's or Durkee dried onions. (you can add crisp bacon if you like it)
Roast some acorn or butternut squash with olive oil.
Any fresh veggies you like, just steam them.
Cranberry sauce, we buy a can of jellied and a can with whole berries.
And for pumpkin pie: I use Pillsberry ready-made crusts; Look for a can of pure pumkin, not the ready-mixed stuff, it has a recipe on the side to tell what spices you need to buy (we double all measures of the spices) add two tablespoons of molasses to the pie filling, it gives it a real different flavor. Also substitute half of the white sugar with brown sugar, you will need eggs and canned evaporated milk (they are in the list of ingrediants on the pumpkin can), and Cool Whip.
Have fun-and
Happy Holidays!!!

You gotta have sweet potato casserole!

Pumpkin pie.. or sweet potato pie.. turkey.. ham.. green bean casserole which you'll have to make .. stuffing.. potato salad.. deviled eggs.. green beans cranberry sauce and BEER!

Two kinds of pie~like pecan and pumpkin. LOTS of whipped cream (the extra is for after dinner games LOL). Rolls, the makings for stuffing (bread, celery, onion, chicken broth and like sausage, oyster or what not~depending on the crowd your serving). Corn, green beans (or make a green bean casserole~from scratch, not that nasty soup one), mashed taters, gravy, cranberries, beverages..............oh and don't forget the turkey!!

Can I come for dinner??

Oooo Lucky I miss commissaries. Mm Veggies of course, stuffing, cranberry sauce(the real stuff), Pumpkin Pie ingredients, cool whip, eggnog, chocolates! they have the biggest selections I've seen....it really all depends on what all they like, I prefer traditional meals.
