If one moves to California, which part should they move to and why?!

Question: Obviously, the traffic snarls in LA and Orange Counties and the Bay Area are becoming a way of life. The housing, utilities, and tax rates are through the roof statewide. So, I'm interested in areas where the people are, by and large, friendly and laid-back.

I find it hard to believe that LA and Orange Cos. would be friendly with a combined population of 13 million. Also, I've heard that San Francisco has the rudest drivers on earth.

I've mostly heard good things about San Bernardino Co., San Diego, Sacramento, and the central coast. I would think northern California above SF and Napa would be pretty friendly and laid-back, too. Am I right or am I dreaming?

Californians, input welcome. Thanks!

I grew up in Los Angeles and while it is not without problems I really love the atmosphere. I find it much friendlier than Denver, CO where I am now (uptight covenenant controlled community mentality). Depends on what is important to you. I was in Pasadena which was great. Desert, mountains, beach and lots of choices in restaurants, entertainment all within an hour drive. If you are looking for laid back, I'd highly suggest Temecula which is nestled between LA/OC/SB/SD counties. Wine country, beautiful. Other parts of San Diego are also great. It's been getting 'trendy' so look for prices in housing to go up a bit. Good luck! If you wrote more about what is important to you I'd be happy to suggest more specifics.

san diego, i know the fires and stuff but it's a really nice place and now the prices have gone down, beside the beach

mission bay

check it out.

Compton

I don't know!
Somewhere near the beach!
Its always fun at the beach!!!
I ? California!

Bay area - awsome has everything you want, lovely beaches, great shopping, child-friendly activities... everything!

Fremont or San Jose are both really nice suburban areas. even though theyre in the bay area, theyre not at all like SF

National City, Rancho San Diego, San Diego, Escondido ........

I live in El Cajon, CA which is in SD

San Diiego.=]
The beaches are amazing and you'll just love the weather.?

Anywhere except Thousand Oaks

You're right. Bay Area & the regions surrounding are a perfect place for newcomers.

Northern CA is the place to stay.

I already been there and done that,,,,,,DON'T GO!!!!!!!!! Come to FLORIDA!!!! It is very nice here!

San Diego, you will love it best weather in the US

I would definitely not recommend San Bernadino.

I was goona say move to the bay area because its so diverse over here and laid back and the ppl here are way more ''friendlyer'' than they r in the east coast

San Diego..People are so friendly, theres plenty to do, it's beautiful and perfect climate !! I went on vacation there this past summer for a week and it was amazing ! It's for all age groups too..You see college people and older people as well, also families ! I really recommend it ! I would love to move there but it is a bit on the expensive side. All depends on where you move to in San Diego though !
Hope I helped

Yes Napa is laid back. I do like San-diego cal. but i think it's also expensive to live there. But it's nice.

It REALLY depends on how much money you have. I live in the O.C. where it is EXTREMELY expensive! Other places like San Bernardino Co. and Riverside Counties are NOT as expensive. San Diego is nice and sunny too, AND the Bay area-nice to VISIT, but LIVING there? (Cold MOST of the time.) I'm NOT so sure! =)

southern part, that has you in the middle of it all, you can go south of the boarder (great shopping) or to the desert (beautiful nights, nice sightseeing) and sandiego has the best zoo in the country, added this is a military town, you can tour a few of the museums, ships ect... educational opps is great also, crime is lower there also

Well one could move to Rodeo Drive to be in an area one is used to.Or perhaps Malibu would suit one better

I live in southern california and will say this entire state is overpopulated and is expensive to live here. Stay where you are......

I lived in California a few times all across the state. I am not a fan of living anywhere in California ever again. If your married do not go there. Its too expensive with too many distractions from family life. If your single you had better go there with an amazing career in mind that your qualified for. I do not advise moving to CA.

I like to think I'm nice. Just because we have a lot of people, doesn't mean the people aren't friendly. We're superficial and fake, but we're friendly. LA traffic sucks, but Orange County (thank you for not calling it "the OC") is manageable. Now, having both complimented and dissed the people from my own county, I'd highly suggest Sacramento. A close friend of mine lives up there, and she loves it. I'd suggest visit these places, before you move, though.

La and orange county is where I currently live but I would NOT recommend you move to the riverside area due to the traffic but maybe in the near future they will make wider roads.Plus if you want to move to the San Diego part then you miss out on the fun that the LA area has.I wouldn't also recommend the Bakersfield area due to the heat.San Fransisco I didn't like much I dont know why.Do some research on where you want to go.

I was born in California. What you are looking for is probably more in the northern CA area. Not that there aren't nice people in southern CA, it's just more crowded with cities of higher population come longer commutes, and let's face it, we all have just so many hours in a day .......... sitting in traffic can make a lot of people anxious.

Go live in Los Angeles and live right next door to the great Arnold. I'd bet the BBQ's would be top-notch.

I live in merced county. dont move here. its said to have the most green and a few other good things but it also has a 2% employment rate; lowest in CA. also the highest conviction rate. The system is badly corupted here. I have lived here all my life in poverty and cant leave because I dont want to leave my children by 3 diferent women. yes, divorce is high too. I cant tell you where to move but I can say dont move here. My advice, dont come to california, its not as great as you think. I know people from other states including my wife, they all say it was a mistake. good luck.

well i dont really think it matters
but it depends on what u like
if u like big cities then you should go to l.a or san diego
if you like the beach than u should live sumwhere close to the coast
if u like nice quiet cities and have alot of money try carmel
if u like hot weather go 2 stockton or modesto or fresno
if u like cold weather try salinas or marina or seaside or monterey
my top 3 suggestions are morro bay
santa cruz
and san jose
they are all very awesome cities in my opinion

My personal choice would be San Jose. San Jose is friendly, not very store crowded, and is the safest American city.

And I agree with San Francisco. I've been there a few times to visit, and it is HORRIBLY crowded and dirty. Everywhere are disgusting buildings, very little space, cars everywhere, steep roads (I was nervous first time I went there) and tons of factories.

The temperature is normally very sunny in San Jose, and it neither becomes too cold (snow) or too hot.

Californian here. I lived in the South Bay most of my life.South Bay is the beach area spanning from Torrance to Malibu. I'm not sure what you are looking for.Are you looking to buy or rent ? San Diego is really nice. L.A. is not unbearable, you do have to get use to traffic or avoiding it.If I could live anywhere in California, I would live in Redondo Beach. The people there are layed back there are so many places to see. Well good luck.

California is way too populated in those areas, that is why the housing, utilities, and tax rates are through the roof. I don't know where you heard that San Francisco has the rudest drivers on earth because it is definitely London. LA and Orange Cos. have manageable places to inhabit, but the SF Bay Area is crazy across the board. As of September 2007, a home in the Bay Area is approx. $702,240. A home in LA as of September 2007 is $569,390. Good Luck finding what you want. The links below will help you in making a decision.
