Who else thinks that today's TV programs are nothing but pathetic, stupid ga!

Question: We got shows whose main plot is that it's o.k. for kids to curse, disrespect parents & authority figures. We got shows about women trying to score with as many men as possible setting women back 50 years, but yet it's supposedly cool (Sex and the City & Desperate Housewives). We got shows that make a joke of family values & marriage (The Bachelor, Bachelorette & Wife Swap). We got shows that are supposedly real even though they are not & are as scripted and stupid as pro wrestling (all reality TV). We got shows that air people's dirty laundry for the world to see (talk shows). We got shows that show women being beaten up, raped, and abuse for people's pleasure (CSI and cop/crime shows). We got music channels that play anything but music (MTV and VH1). We got cartoon shows that shows kids bare butts, people digging up in their nose or scratching their butts, but yet that's a kids show so go figure. Best advice is read a good book because TV is nothing but pathetic garbage.

You are right and I think many would agree, even the younger generation folks. Don't think that these programs reflect the majority of viewers. They only need an audience of a million or so to peddle their wares. A million is less than one percent of the population.

I find it easy, for the first time in my life to simply leave the TV OFF. I used to have in playing for background noise but no more. TV is losing audience and they are trying all sorts of radical and sensationalistic stuff. I don't think it is working.

Isn't it ironic that TV technology, the hardware, is super nowadays, but presenting garbage????

Do they think that a big screen will convert garbage into a gourmet meal?

As Kurt Vonnegut Jr once put it, "White icing on a dog turd does not make a wedding cake, it makes a frosted dog turd."
I always liked that one.

There are a few good shows like CSI and House. CSI isn't that bad. They are catching the criminals.

having been recently badly disillusioned by Dog the Bounty Hunter, I would agree with you. but I never miss a re-run of Star Trek Voyager.

Everything except Laguna Beach

i hate hate hate those crime shows...iactually tried to watch the one with ice t in iy and it was sooooooooooo corny and terrible dialog......and now we have to see Tila Tequila instead of videos!!!!!!!!!!!! and I love new york|?C"MON!

well actually, most of them are good and interesting. But there are some that are pathatic and stupid garbage.

TV is pretty bad these days. I dont have time to watch it much though. I do watch House and Friday Night Lights every week. That is about it though.

Here's a list of some of the shows I think are good...
Heroes, House, Prison Break, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Galactica, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Death Note... to name a few.

Me. Can't believe teenagers these days go crazy over the OC, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, this, that, argh! I'm sorry but in my opinion, these silly soap operas make them into idiots. It's sad. All they learn is to have more sex and party excessively and date one person to the other. Well, that's what I observe in my classmates.

And that's why we do not watch TV at all. If I do happen to have the house to myself at the right time, I will always watch Denis Leary in Rescue Me -

It's all crap, even the prepackaged pap the government allows to be released to the masses as news.I turned mine on the weather channel 2 yrs.ago and thats where it stays.

I will 2nd your thoughts about TV

i read lots of books and those are full of VERY VERY disrespectful stuff...tv is not all bad, books are not all good. do not black and white about it as i did some time ago. now i feel stupid about being so radically minded;)

got to do something other than staying on this computer. i mainly watch the news stations.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Last night I surfed by a channel where a young lady was looking for love and the pool of candidates were male/female. A run off from the bachelor with a different twist. Twisted is what I call it.

I agree. Maybe the writer's strike will shake things up a bit. I have to admit I do enjoy "30 Rock" and it's about the only show I make an effort to watch.

I read a lot instead. But there's just as much garbage in print as there is on t.v., only no commercials.

Wow. I can see that you are very passionate about your beliefs.

I agree to a certain extent, but there is quality programming to be found. Maybe not on basic tv, but with cable we have access to history, medicine, education, and many more.

All of the bad things that you say are on tv are the subject of a lot of books - all of the chick lit, stephen king, dean koontz, even Grisham - the first chapter of A Time to Kill was one of the most disturbing books I've ever read.

And off those bad things you talk about are amplified 10-fold by the Internet where the potential for everything from nonsensical waste of time (UTube) to violence, depravity, and pornography are even more readily available.

Let's throw music in there while you're at it. I've heard an awful lot of hip hop that is down right appalling. Even the mainstream stuff, "It's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes." That's what I want our children singing...

But we live in America. We have the freedom to produce just about whatever tv show, book, or music we want. We also have the right to watch. listen, and read what we want - or if it bothers us - click off the tv, radio, Internet ... and read a book.

I suppose I do because all I watch are satellite movies, morning cable news programs and I do seriously watch the science channels. So I agree except for older comedy reruns like Everybody Loves Raymond. I know this is crazy, but I love to Sleep to UFO programs because they knock me right out. Those are so dumb they comfort me!! Roswell Area 54 is like Brahms Lullaby for me!! But Now Don't Become a TV Snob!! (Sounds like you and I watch just about the same things.) I LOVE MY TV ANYWAY!! YAY FOR SATELLITES!!

And it's quite sad that people just eat it up. I haven't watched television in two years sans the glances at the news before I leave for school in the morning.

Though I agree that there are a lot of pathetic and stupid garbage these days , not all of them are bad , for example there's Animal Planet , Discovery Channel , National Geographic ( well some of the shows at NG ) , TBN , etc

Not to mention Books also carry garbage , on the Internet , it's everywhere

But my point is that it's not " just a book " or " just a movie "

It's not just entertainment . If you entertain the thoughts , ideas , and suggestions in it , you are accepting the beliefs which are shown or displayed

TV programs are for entertainment - it's not up for me or you to decide what everyone watches...

Surprised you didn't include shows like The 700 Club where Pat Robertson has expressed his views on why someone like Aeriel Sharon deserved a heart attack from God because he gave land up to the Palestinians... I'd rather my kids watch a cartoon butt, instead of seeing a whole a__!

But with the wonderful world of cable tv they give you the ability to block shows & stations so that you can stop your children or yourself (but only if you are too stupid to know when to change the channel) from watching certain shows...

A Good book??? Pleeease.. there is just as much of that garbage in books that you described then there is on TV...

Again, it's entertainment & like grabbing a book & putting it back on the shelf, all you have to do is change the channel..

For the most part yes. The few notable exceptions, for me anyway, are Cold Case and the Law&Order series.
