Depends on the curve ball it's not always wise to swing at the pitch sometimes taking a step back and examining the situation can give you a clear path to fallow.

It depends on whether or not it is pitched inside the strike zone. If not, either wait for a better offer, or take count and walk. If it is inside the strike zone then swing with all your might. Just be sure to stay focused and dont take your eyes off the ball.
