Have you been truely culture shocked when travelling overseas?!
Question: yep. traveled to haiti on a mission trip. people are bathing naked in the river, garbage is EVERYWHERE, no electricity during the day, no running water, couldnt understand a word anyone was saying, and the ironic thing is that this city was right on the carribean. off the shore it was beautiful, like something out of a travel guide. i even seen a cruise ship pass by. but inland it was nothing but poverty. all dirt roads, no stores, no fast food :(

More culture schocked when I leave the city... I live in NYC and went upstate and it really was a shock....

I haven't but a friend of mine went to Thailand between her Juniot and Senior year. She said it really depressing the way most people had to live there.
yes when i was served a plate of eel and jellyfish in china. and yes i ate it! not all of it, but at least i tried it.
Actually, I never felt culture shock until I returned to the U.S. That was weird. So much had changed since I left. (I was stationed overseas for 10 years.) It was a difficult adjustment.
Yeah, the first time I went to Cambodia. It was just so different than what I am used to here in Texas. After a day or so I was fine and the people were really nice.

im american and been living in korea for one year/yes im still in it and im moving home this place every one is nice but its a nasty place
in Thailand - the bathrooms, prices, the way people acted, the way Farang treated the sex workers, the respect shown to the Royal Family (even in movie theatres)

i was surprised when i went to Paris because there was a lot of crime there. when i was there (three days) we saw two men get arrested, on different occasions. there was what looked like a shooting down on the river Seine and constant sirens from ambulances and police cars. I have never seen a gun here in Australia except for in the movies lol, so that was scary. But i still love Paris.
yes! I was in morocco and had saved a long time to get to europe (i am from australia) and then i went to morocco and was running out of money. i spent a bit too much on a rug and started panicking about how much money i had. Then i felt so bad about how petty i was in this less fortunate country then mine that i went around and bought some bread for all the kids. The biggest cultural shock for me was how happy this adorable poor kids were and made me so happy making them happy!
