I think you have an older version of the iPod, more commonly known as the iPlodd, which is coal powered and plays only first generation digital music. So your records won't play on this, because the Plodd uses digital technology, which, from latin means "all your fingers" (digit = all and gital = with fingernails). You would know if the iPlodd came with any of this music, because each digital recording weighs 80 stones and was carved from granite.
You can see the inventor using the first prototype, called the "Handcrank Pornograph" ( http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co... ) because 90% of the music available at that time was crunk ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crunk ).
Apple has a replacement policy, which will give you a per pound price for your iPlodd that you can put towards the purchase of an iCod or other marine-powered music player.

Yes it'l play vinyl. You just have to cover the ipod in a 2mm layer of mayonaise first!!!!
Ohhh you are using those big black CDs. You have to use the smaller black CDs, with the little yellow adapter disk thingy.
Note: resist the temptation to play them backwards - that is when the real evil stuff starts to happen (refer to Wikipedia re: rap for more details)

The iPod plays music that you put on it from a computer via iTunes. It cannot just simply play records im afraid.

Have you checked the stylus on your iPod. It could need a new one. My new device has got a 78" speed on it. Perfect for when I raid my grandmothers gramaphone collection. All my friends come round and listen whilst we drink tea and coffee. We have the time of our lives!

I never used one in my life. Did an instruction book come with it and did you follow the instructions? If everything is alright there maybe you were conned.
