No, maybe you should look for another job...not everyone is off. It is a very important day, I agree, but most people are working unless you work for the govt.......most if not all private businesses are open....especially in this terrible economy.
if you want to lose your job, go for it. where i work you ask for days off at least three weeks in advance and then you either get it or you don't. if you explain that you really want it...that it matters to you for whatever reason...then sometimes you can have it off. but when you are employed by someone remember that it is your responsibility to be there when you are scheduled and that if you are not they are able to disipline you according to whatever attendance policy they have. your method would more than likely get you in trouble for sexual harrassment.
